The CFA does not allowed declawed cats to be shown.

Kittens must be 4 months old and Adult Cats must be 8 months of age on the day of the show to be in the Adult Class. All Cats that are going into the Premiership Class are to be spayed or neutered, as are the Household Pets that are 8 months of age. Make sure your cat is up to date on all shots.

HOW TO ENTER

You must fill out a Cat Show Entry Form. Most people now-a-days enter shows online. Just remember that payment is due within 10 days of entering online or at check-in at the show, whichever comes first. Many shows accept Paypal. However, if you have enough time, you can also download an entry form and mail it in along with a check for the entry fees. The Cat Show Flyer will have who and where to send payment to.

Directions to the show hall will be sent to you with both the hotel and show hall with your registration.

When entering one cat at the Cat Show I would recommend getting what is known as a double cage which costs only about $15 or $20 extra. You and your cat will be there for two days and it is nice for the both of you to have the extra space. Upsizing to a double is on the Cat Show Entry Form located under Special Requests.

WHAT TO BRING

The Clubs that are putting on the Cat Show will have the cage for you and litter, however you need to bring your own litter pan.

Don't forget to bring:

  • a water bowl and food bowl
  • comb or brush to groom the cat
  • pet carrier to transport to and from the car
  • maybe a small wooden "TV" table to groom the cat on
  • cage coverings

The CFA requires that you cover your cage on the ends, the top and the back. Also, there needs to be a covering on the table where the cage sits.

The size of a cage is 22" tall by 22" deep by 22" long for a SINGLE (half cage). If you upsize to a WHOLE cage it is 22 x 22 x 44".

NOTE: the cages all come with a divider, and when the divider is in place, it splits the cage into two 'sections' - so if you get a 'single' you could be sharing the other half with someone else...this makes for cramped seating in front of your cage area...

OK, so you can MAKE Show Curtains..or you can buy them (kind of expensive)

You can buy material...something washable and you could hem the ends and even add ruffles or lace etc if you ar efeeling clever:

  • 1 ½ Yards for the bottom of the Cage (so get a piece that is 45" wide by 1.5 yds long....that gives you plenty to drape down the front to help hide your under-the-cage storage!
  • 2 Yards for the top of the Cage (again, another piece that is 45" wide by 2 yrds long. this will lay across the top of the cage and have enough to drape down the ends and the back)
  • 3 Yards for the inside and outsides of the Cage. You will need the whole 3 yards of 45" wide material so do not cut it. This piece will lay OVER the sides and back like you would lay a sheet over a clothesline. This now will cover up the insides of the cage.

OR.....

Get a bath towel for the bottom and a couple twin sized sheets! EASY!

You might also want to get some clips to secure the top and sides of the cage down that way you will secure it so the cat can’t push it up and get out. This you can get at any stationary store.

OR...

You can buy a nice canvas 'cat show tent' - they are convenient, easy to set up and great if you travel with your pet.

(of course there are other vendors as well...but this is the one I see the most at the shows)

You will want to bathe the cat and clip all the claws before the show!
